Both the Future Imagination Summit and the Futurist Writers Room sessions facilitated the expression of lived values through storytelling, remembering the future and reimagining the past, against a backdrop of chaos and upheaval that encompassed the pandemic, the protests and riots following the death of George Floyd, the election of President Biden, and the storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. As these events transpired, members from diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds engaged in open and free-ranging discussions that allowed for compassion and understanding around the complicated history leading to the chaos, while simultaneously imagining potential future states in which history had made a great turn toward beauty and justice.
