Membership

Reason to join: the individual is or aspires to be a practicing future architect.

Membership benefits

  • Intellectual, emotional and professional support from the community;

  • Access to peer advisors and learning programs;

  • Shared growth opportunities, dot-connection to resources, and relationship-building to further the future architecture practice;

  • Collaboration opportunities to work on projects of significant impact with fellow future architects;

  • Recognition as a leader in building a world that values collective wellbeing and shared prosperity

Membership obligation

  • Pay-as-you-can membership fee. GoFA calculates its per-member operational costs to set its annual membership fee. If every member pays the exact amount, we will be financially self-sufficient as a community.

  • 20 hours of volunteer work on an annual basis. This, too, is an honor system. Some members are in a position to contribute their time more generously than others. In the spirit of co-creation and exploration, we encourage all members to spend time guiding and supporting each other’s work. The GoFA staff curates appropriate opportunities based on our best knowledge of members’ interests and expertise.

Circle of Trust

After a long pause in the expansion of GoFA’s membership, a Circle of Trust (CoT) process for onboarding new members, first articulated by May Lee, was prototyped by Ryat Yezbick from March-May of 2022. Thirteen individuals who went through the process were accepted into the Guild and became Members the week of July 11th. To finalize their membership, they were asked to sign the New Member Contract.

Each person attended an informational session on getting to know GoFA, as well as a “meet the members” session. A smaller handful attended a FWR led by Rob Sinclair.

The operations to run the CoT were as follows:

  • Gather recommendations from existing members or see the Potential New Members list for their recommendations;

  • Conduct outreach to members to solicit participation in CoT;

  • Hold CoT informational session with members on how CoT will run;

  • Hold informational session on the Guild (GoFA Info Session) for potential new members;

  • Hold “meet the members” sessions (x2) for existing members to meet potential new members. (For the prototype, 2 sessions were offered to meet everyone’s schedules);

  • Hold FWR for potential new members;

  • Send agreed-upon new members the Membership Declaration and New Member Contract to welcome them to the Guild.

Members who participated in the first CoT prototype include: Takaaki Okada, Hussein Rashid, Jason Milstein, Wilneda Negro, Erin Washington, Gustavo Rincon, Elizabeth Webb, Mark Beam.

May Lee, a member of the Regenerative Leadership Team will lead a second prototype in 2022, with a new Member Contract.
